Frequently Asked Questions

How come some of the pictures of your dogs have tails?

Our imports from Germany have there tails because Germany hasn't docked tails on Rottweilers since around 1995. Most of the world has followed suite as it is the FCI standard now. Even the AKC accepts Rottweilers with tails in the show ring now, but it is not required.

Are the tails docked on our puppies?

Yes at this time we still do. In the United States most people aren't ready or use to seeing a Rottweiler with its tail intact. I hope in the near future this mentality changes, I myself prefer to have the tails on them. If you saw a Labrador with its tail docked it would look strange too, it's something your not used to seeing.

Do your puppies come with a contract or any guarantees?

All Vom Hause Gruver Rottweiler puppies come with a contract that guarantees they will arrive healthy, and OFA at two years of age.

Can I get a refund on my deposit for a puppy?

No, when you send a deposit you enter into an obligation to purchase a puppy from said litter, you my how ever put your deposit on another upcoming litter. Once I receive the deposit that puppy is sold, if I have deposits on all of them, then they are considered sold. So if anyone inquires about a puppy from this litter I tell them they are all spoken for, I don't feel it would be right to take a back up list on all the puppies in case someone backs out. Once I receive the deposit it is with intent to purchase said puppy, as it is my intent to raise, prepare, and ship the puppy to you. You wouldn't be happy if I didn't follow through on shipping the puppy to you after you paid for it, would you? That is bad business and you wouldn't be in business very long if you treated your customers like that.

What is OFA?

OFA stands for Orthopedic Foundation for animals. It is a Foundation that checks for Hip and Elbow dysplasia in dogs via x-ray submittal by board certified vets. With the ADRK (German Rottweiler club) the dog must be x-rayed before it can be used for breeding. The ADRK tattoos the puppies for identification and it is registered with the tattoo number. The OFA now requires some sort of identification for every OFA submittal (tattoo, or micro chip). this makes sure that the dogs x-ray is actually that dog.

Are our dogs OFA'd?

All our dogs at two years of age get there hips, and elbows x-rayed. The x-rays are then sent to the OFA for submission. All of our German imports had there hips and elbows done when they were of age in Germany. Vom Hause Gruver Rottweilers will not breed any dog unless it has been x-rayed for hip and elbow dysplasia.

Way are the litters given a alphabet?

In Germany every litter from a kennel (Zwinger in German) is alphabetize starting with the letter "A" then "B" and so on until they reach the letter "Z", then you go back to the letter "A" and start over again. Every puppy in lets say litter "M"  registered name will start with the letter "M" , for instance mike Vom Hause Gruver, Macho Vom Hause Gruver ect. The dogs call name (its name that you will call it by everyday can be anything you want it to be).

What are all those titles and abbreviations? (Working Titles)

In other Countries that are FCI Recognized (FCI stands for Federation Cynologique International), the dog sport is IPO (IPO stands for International Police Organization). It's almost the same as SchutzHund (SchH) which means Guard Dog, now know as VPG (VPG stands for Vielseitigkeitspruefung Fur Gebrauschshunde) which means Versatility test for Working Dogs. There are three phase's or parts to VPG or IPO, 1. Tracking (search & Rescue), 2. Obedience, and 3. Protection (Police work). There are also three levels in VPG, and IPO 1,2, and the highest 3.They are shown in Roman numerals I, II, and III. A dog is listed as a SchH. I, VPG I, or IPO I has past the first level. This is the hardest to achieve, I say this only because you start with the dog knowing nothing, and it's usually a puppy. You have to teach them everything. The second, and third levels get harder, and require a bit more of the dog and handler. When you see VGH. Ch. in the pedigree, that dog is the working champion for that year.

What are all those titles and abbreviations? (Show Titles)

For the United States the most known dog club is the AKC (American Kennel Club), of which the ARC (American Rottweiler Club) is the Rottweiler breed club of the AKC. When you see AM. CH. that means American Champion in the AKC ring. Can CH. means Canadian Champion, Mex. CH. Mexican Champion, and so on. Int. CH. means International Champion (this is an FCI title recognized around the world). To gain this title the dog must be a champion in three different countries. K.S. (Klub Sieger) the yearly ADRK Sieger (champion) that is way you will see KS 98 for the year 1998, this is the biggest show for Rottweilers in Germany. E.S. (Europa Sieger), This is the biggest show in Europe also held once a year. W.S. Welt Sieger is the World Show held once a year.
